Squeaking door: oil the hinges instead of replacing them
Squeaky door? Oiling the hinges is usually enough, no need to replace them.

What you need
- Bicycle oil or sewing machine oil
- Cloth
- Vacuum cleaner
- Penetrating oil if needed
How to do it
- Vacuum the hinges and wipe them clean with a cloth.
- Put a few drops of oil on the cloth and run it around the hinge pins.
- If the door can't be lifted off, spray penetrating oil into the hinges.
Variations
- On exterior doors, a rust remover on the hinges can also help.
