Oil the plane lightly after each use with camellia oil
A thin film of oil after each use helps protect the metal parts of your hand plane.

What you need
- Camellia oil (spray bottle or cloth)
- Wax polish for the sole
- Cloth
How to do it
- Put one or two sprays of oil on a cloth.
- Wipe a thin layer of oil over the metal parts.
- Treat the plane sole with wax polish, since oil on the sole can stain the wood.
Variations
- Ballistol (a multi-purpose care oil) is said to be an alternative.
