What you need
- Citric acid powder
- Water
- Container
- Cloth
- Oil
How to do it
- Dissolve citric acid powder in water to make a solution of about 3 percent.
- Immerse the rusty parts in the solution and leave them for a few hours.
- Polish with a cloth or sponge, dry the parts and oil them.
Variations
- Cola instead of citric acid: soak the rusty parts in cola for 24 to 48 hours, dry them well and rub them with a light oil. Cola is said to work because of its phosphoric acid content.
- Vinegar and oil mix: mix vinegar and neutral vegetable oil 1:1 and apply it to the rust. Leave it for several hours, wipe off with a soft cloth or brush and finish with oil.
