Use the play in the tape measure hook for inside and outside dimensions
Measure inside and outside dimensions accurately by using the play in the tape measure hook.

What you need
- Tape measure
How to do it
- For an outside measurement, hook the end over the edge and measure.
- For an inside measurement, push the hook against the inner surface; it slides back as you do.
- Check now and then that the hook still has some play.
