Rescue an oversalted soup or sauce with raw potato pieces or a boil-in-bag rice pouch

Rescue an oversalted soup or sauce by simmering raw potato pieces or a boil-in-bag rice pouch in it.

Time
⏱ etwa 15 min; 10–15 min
Difficulty
◆ easy

What you need

  • raw potato or boil-in-bag rice (kept in its bag)
  • pot

How to do it

  1. Cut a raw potato into rough chunks.
  2. Simmer the pieces in the dish for a few minutes, about 15 minutes.
  3. Take the pieces out before serving.
  4. Don't expect it to work in firm dishes like mashed potatoes, where neither potato nor rice helps.

Variations

  • Boil-in-bag rice instead of potato: hang the bag in the soup or sauce for ten to 15 minutes and let it cook along. Take it out before serving.
