Pre-sprout potatoes in an egg carton
Pre-sprout seed potatoes in an egg carton so they go into the bed earlier with sturdy sprouts.

What you need
- Egg carton
- Healthy seed potatoes
How to do it
- Pick healthy, undamaged seed potatoes.
- Store them in the dark at 4 to 8 °C until you start sprouting.
- Set the potatoes in the egg carton cups with the sprout end facing up.
- Place them somewhere bright and cool until sprouts show.
- Start about four weeks before you plan to plant.
Variations
- Fruit crates or multi-cell trays work instead of an egg carton.
