GardenTried-and-true tip
Use a PET bottle with holes in the cap as an upside-down watering device
Water plants with an upside-down bottle stuck in the soil that releases water slowly.
- Time
- ⏱ 10 min Vorbereitung
- Difficulty
- ◆ easy
What you need
- Plastic bottle with cap
- Nail or other pointed object
- Water
How to do it
- Poke several small holes in the cap.
- Fill the bottle with water and screw the cap on tightly.
- Place the bottle upside down in the soil.
- Keep in mind that the amount of water is harder to control than with other methods.
Variations
- Glass bottle: Fill an old glass bottle with a narrow neck, such as a beer bottle, with water and push it neck-down into the soil. If the neck is too wide, too much water runs out and the soil can become waterlogged. Make sure the bottle sits firmly in the ground.
- Clay cone: Push a terracotta cone about two thirds into the soil close to the plant, then set a plastic or glass bottle holding at most 1.5 litres of water upside down into it. The cone passes the water to the soil slowly. Check the water level when you return.
