Game ideasTried-and-true tip

Paper race on a grid with a braking rule

A two-player racing game on squared paper: brake in time for the corners and still be first across the finish line.

Difficulty
◆ medium

What you need

  • Squared paper
  • Two coloured pencils

How to do it

  1. Draw a racetrack on the squared paper and give each player a starting point on the start line.
  2. Move one square on the first turn. After that, count the steps 1, 2, 3, 4, then begin again at 1.
  3. Move straight, sideways or diagonally, as long as you cover the right number of squares.
  4. If your car crashes into the barrier, carry on with a step size of 1.
  5. The first player to reach the finish wins.
