OutdoorsTried-and-true tip

Reading a single footprint as the unit for identifying a track

A single footprint helps identify an animal: does it show the whole sole or only the toes?

Time
⏱ 5 min
Difficulty
◆ medium

How to do it

  1. Don't look at a single print in isolation.
  2. Check whether the whole sole is visible (sole-walker) or only the toes (toe-walker).
  3. Compare it with the full trail.
