How to do it
- On the bank or jetty, lay the paddle across behind the cockpit.
- Hold the cockpit rim and the paddle with one hand.
- Slide slowly into the kayak, foot on the boat side first.
- Close the spray deck and take the paddle in your hands.
Variations
- Paddle brace at a low jetty or bank: lay the kayak alongside, put the paddle across the water or push it in, brace on it and glide into the cockpit. Recommended for beginners, no longer needed with advanced technique.
- For a high jetty: board at the lowest point of the jetty.
