Petroleum-jelly cotton pad as a fire starter
A cotton pad worked with petroleum jelly makes a simple, long-burning fire starter.
- Time
- ⏱ 5 min
- Difficulty
- ◆ easy
What you need
- Cotton pads (not polyester)
- Petroleum jelly (Vaseline)
- Match or spark source
- Variant: candle
How to do it
- Use cotton pads; polyester performs much worse.
- Work the petroleum jelly into the fibres with your fingers, which is the most effective way.
- Store the pads dry and sealed; they keep practically forever.
- Light them with a match or a spark.
Variations
- Instead of petroleum jelly, soak the cotton pad in candle wax.
