EverydayTried-and-true tip

Add a foreground element to create depth

Add depth to wide scenes in phone photos by including an object in the foreground.

Time
⏱ 3 min
Difficulty
◆ easy

How to do it

  1. Look for a foreground element, such as a plant, a fence or a person.
  2. Include it deliberately in the frame, ideally in the left or right third.
  3. Focus on the main subject in the distance and take the shot.

Variations

  • Placing it in a third is a suggestion, not a requirement.
