What you need
- Hygrometer for indoors and outdoors
How to do it
- Measure humidity inside and outside and compare absolute humidity, not relative.
- Only air the cellar when there is less water vapour per cubic metre of air outside than inside.
- Keep the cellar windows closed in muggy heat.
Why it works
Warm outside air cools down on the colder cellar walls. The moisture is released and the humidity in the cellar rises.
Variations
- If the absolute humidity outside is too high, a condensation dehumidifier can help.
