Car & bikeTried-and-true tip
Rest the chain on the bottom bracket shell while riveting to relieve tension
When riveting a chain, rest it on the bottom bracket shell instead of the small chainring to relieve tension.
- Time
- ⏱ 5 min
- Difficulty
- ◆ medium
What you need
- Chain tool
- Chain holder, if needed
How to do it
- Push the pin back into the chain link until it disappears completely.
- If the chain is under too much tension, move it from the small chainring onto the bottom bracket shell.
- Finish the riveting.
Variations
- A chain holder keeps the two chain ends together while riveting. Many chain tools and multitools include one; otherwise a bent piece of wire or a spoke works too.

Steht die Kette dabei zu sehr unter Zug, kannst Du diese auch vom kleinen Kettenblatt auf das Innenlagergehäuse legen.
