Mühle – so spielst du

Nine Men’s Morris – how to play

Each player has nine pieces. First you take turns placing pieces on empty points of the board. Three of your pieces in a line form a mill – then you remove one of your opponent’s pieces, preferably one that is not part of a mill.

Once all pieces are placed, you move them along the lines to adjacent empty points. A player with only three pieces left may fly to any empty point.

You lose when you are down to two pieces or cannot move.

Tips

  • Occupy the junctions with four neighbours early.
  • Build a double mill: two mills between which one piece moves back and forth.
  • Do not place all pieces on the edge – you get blocked quickly there.

What is a double mill?
